Terms and Conditions — VocalRangeFinder

Written by Nance | Last updated: June 2026

Purpose of This Website

VocalRangeFinder.com is a free, browser-based tool and educational resource for measuring singing range and understanding voice type classification based on established vocal science. The site is operated by Nance, vocal range researcher and voice health educator.

By accessing or using any page or tool on VocalRangeFinder.com, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use this site.

These terms apply to all visitors and users of VocalRangeFinder.com, regardless of how you access the site or which device you use.

Use of the Vocal Range Finder

Microphone access The Vocal Range Finder requires microphone access to capture live voice audio for sustained note detection and range measurement. By granting microphone permission when prompted by your browser, you authorise the site to capture a live audio stream for the sole purpose of detecting the pitch of notes you sing and mapping your measured range against voice type classification criteria. This audio stream is processed entirely within your browser, is never transmitted to any server, and is never stored in any form. Full details are documented on the Data Security page.

Permitted use You may use the Vocal Range Finder and all content on VocalRangeFinder.com for personal, educational, and professional reference purposes. You may share links to pages on this site freely.

Prohibited use You may not:

  • Scrape, copy, reproduce, or republish the content of this site without written permission from Nance
  • Use automated tools to access the site in a manner that places unreasonable load on the server
  • Attempt to interfere with, disable, or circumvent any security feature of this site
  • Misrepresent the source of this site’s content or present it as your own work
  • Use this site in any way that violates applicable local, national, or international law

Tool Accuracy and Limitations

The Vocal Range Finder measures vocal range by confirming sustained notes using YIN/FFT pitch detection. Range measurement accuracy is approximately ±1–2 semitones at the extremes under typical conditions.

Voice type classification from range measurement alone is inherently limited. The Fach system requires singing range, passaggi, tessitura, and timbre — of which this tool measures only range. In the overlapping zones between adjacent voice types, range measurement cannot produce a definitive classification. Professional assessment is required in these cases.

This tool is provided as an educational reference resource — not a certified vocal assessment instrument. Results should not be used as the sole basis for any professional, academic, or health-related decision without independent professional assessment.

Full technical documentation of the measurement pipeline, accuracy figures, and classification limitations is available on the Methodology page.

No Professional Advice

Nothing on VocalRangeFinder.com constitutes professional voice coaching, singing instruction, speech-language pathology, laryngology, or any other form of regulated or certified professional service.
